Michael Macasiano Progress

Here are some ideas I've been throwing around: POST BREAK!

Since I'm not an artist, there hasn't really been a character that really resonated with me to be the face of my brand. Therefore, I would have to focus more around creating some kind of symbol to represent me instead. It might be a little more fitting since the symbol will be more about design rather than having the illustrative quality of a character. Even if given the chance to have a character drawn for me, some kind of symbol might be more fitting anyway.
The general idea for my logo comes from the Polygon logo:
This is actually the Polygon Twitter icon. This logo is very simplistic and is made up of simple triangles. I wanted to replicate this simple idea in my logo. The only other design aspect I really wanted to incorporate was the hexagon shape. I really like hexagons for whatever reason and I wanted to incorporate that shape into the design. One of my favorite art blogs is actually Geometry Daily and the pieces that really resonate are the ones involving hexagons. I was pretty sure I wanted to incorporate them.
The first set of logos are around the first ones I came up with. The whole thing pretty much takes directly from the Polygon logo. Something that they use, like a watermark or something, uses the logo with just the outlines. I really like the way this set actually looks but mostly, I love that it looks like something that's under construction. Like my brand, it's being built up... Or something like that. The logo right next to it is the same but with bigger stroke so the logo is actually readable at smaller sizes.
The next set were just from me playing around. I don't think either of them are very strong but someone did tell me the box was nice but I think it's mostly because the other logo looked like the Gmail logo and once she saw that, she couldn't unsee it.
The next set is probably the logo I will go for with work. It is the strongest of the set, I feel. It incorporates the hexagon shape in a pretty solid way the the M is more clearly defined than in any of the others. You can clearly tell it's an M and you don't really have to pick it out from anything. It's worth mentioning here that I have been testing these logos by using them as a watermark on a game screenshot. If they're still relatively readable, I think they're passable.
I'm deciding to go with the bolder sized one because it is just easier to read. Also, without the other lines, a bolder M is perfectly fin in this logo to me.
The last set is something I just wanted to play around with a bit. I was already set on the logo above but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try more things. I went back and looked at the Polygon logo a little harder and really liked the triangle color thing. It's more apparent on the website version of the logo but I wanted to try it out. Actually making the M out of triangles proved to be a challenge so I instead just put the M in. It's kind of cool having part of the M in the negative space but if people didn't already know it was me, they would be totally lost on that logo, I think. Or maybe I'm 100% wrong on that and that logo is actually really intriguing. If someone said that to me, I certainly wouldn't disagree. I did try and put a color outline on it but I think it just loses the character it has without the outline.
I didn't really work too hard on the CD cover yet. I think I might actually use all these designs across different parts of this class. For instance, I really don't think the last logo I made was very strong but it could be cool on the DVD label or even business card. They seem similar enough that using them all won't be so bad.
Here is just main logo dropped onto the DVD label.
The business cards have actually been a bit difficult. While I had a little bit of direction for the logo, now that I'm actually working on the business card, I'm not sure what I want to do with everything. Here are some of my initial tries:

The first couple use the basic ideas from the original logos. I really like the Apple business cards because they are so simple. One might immediately think that I'm using, "I really like simplicity"as an excuse to not do much but I really do like the look. They weigh more on their strong brand and good line of product rather than really flashy stuff with their cards.
The last cards were me realizing how similar my design was to the Gmail logo.
Here are some more recent designs:

And just to have a little more fun, here are some gifs with flashing colors!
